Charlie Todd

There is a story on me today in The Sun, which is London’s equivalent of The New York Post (both are owned by Murdoch).  I gave a phone interview to the writer yesterday for about twenty minutes.  Here are some things that are hilarious/wrong about the article:

  • At no point did I ever say, “I’m YouTube’s biggest prankster,” but somehow that is the headline for the piece.
  • I talked for five minutes about how Improv Everywhere existed two years before the term “flash mob” and gave him all the reasons why I don’t identify what we do with that term.  I guess he wasn’t paying attention because the sub-headline for the piece is “50m views for fella’s flashmobs”
  • The one time he mentions the name of the group he incorrectly calls it “Improv Anywhere”
  • He took the liberty of rephrasing almost all of my quotations to make me sound British.  For example: “Every single person I know has phoned me,” and “20,000 U2 fans were wandering around before the show and when the music came on they went mad.”
  • He used three photographs from IE photographer Chad Nicholson without permission or credit as well as a fourth that I think is by Steph Goralnick

I grow more tired of journalists every day.  Maybe something good will come out of it and this will help us get a UK publisher for the upcoming Improv Everywhere book.
