Governor’s Island was a wonderful host for the Mp3 Experiment last year, and it’s an all around awesome NYC spot. It looks like budget cuts might close it this year!
From Figment:
We need your help to keep Governors Island open!
This economic storm has affected us all… and Governors Island is at risk of being shut down for the 2009 season.
Now is your time to speak out. Each year, the city and the state have jointly provided a $7.5 million annual budget for the island, which funds things like ferries and maintenance. But this year, neither the city nor the state has included Governors Island in their budget and with budgets due April 1st, now is the time to act!
What can you do?
1. Send a letter to Governor David Patterson and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. We’ve put sample letters (courtest of the Governors Island Alliance) here for your use:

2. You can also follow this link to have the Governors Island Alliance send a postcard to the Governor on your behalf:

3. If you can, please come to a press event on February 27th at 9:30 AM on the steps of City Hall: Keep Governors Island Afloat! The more people we can turn out, the better chance we have of being heard.
