Sonic Youth’s guitarist, Lee Ranaldo, just released a video for a song off his upcoming solo album, and it uses footage from Improv Everywhere’s Mp3 Experiment from last summer (see 1:58.)

The coolest part? Ranaldo shot the footage himself! I had no idea he was at the event. I don’t know if he participated, his kids participated, or if he just happened to stumble upon it. Whatever the case, I’m pretty excited that the man that Rolling Stone called the 33rd best guitarist of all time included a snippet of our event in his video.

Also, the song is great!

Since Aspen, Colorado has an African American population of 0.44%, Improv Everywhere decided to give the locals a chance to “meet a black person.” They put comedian Colton Dunn in an empty hot chocolate kiosk at the foot of the mountain to greet folks as they exited the slopes.

The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips is my favorite album of all time. Pitchfork.tv made a really outstanding documentary about it. I’ve read the book about The Flaming Lips and seen their documentary, but this still had tons of new information and insight into the record. Highly recommended watching if you’re a fan.

Fingers crossed that they will play the album in its entirety live in NY sometime. They’ve done it around the world, but have skipped NYC!

Here is the official video for this year’s No Pants Subway Ride. Nearly 4,000 people rode the New York City subway in their underwear in the middle of winter. This was the 11th annual ride, and it also happened in 59 other cities around the world in 27 countries.

It took ten megaphones to get the job done, but we did it. Thanks to the other nine “Generals” for their help at the No Pants Subway Ride today, and thanks to the dozens more who helped organize, photograph, and shoot the event. We had nearly 4,000 participate in NY and many more in 59 cities around the globe. Check out Improv Everywhere for photos and reports. Awesome video coming soon!

One of the best podcast’s ever, The Sound of Young America, has been reborn as Bullseye. Check it out. I was first a guest on TSOYA in November, 2004 which was one of the very first media interviews I ever did. Host Jesse Thorn has been a great supporter of (and occasional participant with) Improv Everywhere over the years.

You can download a torrent of every episode of TSOYA ever for free, which should keep you busy for a year or so. The first episode of Bullseye features Chris Lilley from We Can Be Heroes, Summer Heights High, and Angry Boys.

To celebrate 10 years of The No Pants Subway Ride, director Matt Adams made this video telling the story of the very first event in 2002. It features an interview with a woman who was on the train that day and wound up being the star of the video. This footage was shot as part of a documentary Adams is making about Improv Everywhere, which you can support on Kickstarter.

The 2012 No Pants Subway Ride is this Sunday in New York and dozens of other cities around the world.
